Two Women Sitting

by Jesús Papoleto Meléndez

There are two women
sitting on a bench
across from me, kissing.
At this distance, they
appear like lovers;
a man and a woman,
since both wear
trousers, but both are
women, and yet
appear as lovers, a
man and a woman.
They hold each other
passionately & embrace;
they fall into each
other’s arms, then
lean, one into another.
And here they are lost;
as lovers often are —
Their mingle entwines to
where if they were
a man & woman, one
observing could not tell
which was the woman
& who the man.
