The Web And The Wasteland
Grandmother Spider is a Pueblo Indian concept. She is also known as Spider Woman or Thought Woman. All stories and thoughts originate from her; she functions as the primal source for all thoughts.
Thomas Stearns Eliot
never knew
Grandmother Spider.
Because if he did
he’d have known
his Waste Land
was just a state of mind.
He’d have known
the Spider was feeding him
strands
long, iridescent
threads of thought
spun from deep
within her shadow.
If he had looked closer
he would have seen her
in some crevice of his Rock
Spinning. Connecting.
Mapping. Joining.
The four directions
into circle
into wholeness
into meaning
into being.
T.S. never knew
About Grandmother Spider.
Because if he did,
he would have stayed
right here
in North America
And talked with her
she would have showed
Where to look for life and peace
No need to travel continents
Collecting fragments.
