Join us for a poetry reading with commentary by Gary Snyder. Best known as a poet and prose writer, Snyder is the author of more than seventeen books. He has also translated a number of classical Chinese poems and is particularly well-known internationally for his translations of the Tang hermit poet Han Shan (Cold Mountain). Snyder lived over ten years in Kyoto where he studied Linji Chan, Rinzai Zen, at Daitoku-ji. He will read original poems and some translations, and comment on the trans-Pacific cultural exchange now underway.
