Obasi Davis Places Third Place at Youth Speaks Teen Poetry Slam Finals 2012

This video features Obasi Davis at Youth Speaks Teen Poetry Slam on April 27, 2012 at the Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco, where he placed 3rd place.

Davis is 16 years old and a Sophomore at Berkeley High School, CA. and a Youth Speaks Youth Advisory Board. He has traveled overseas in London and Paris in 2011 with Olympic Gold medalist Dr. Tommie Smith performing his original work and the works of Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Langston Hughes, Mari Evans, and others.

Committed to a critical, youth-centered pedagogy, Youth Speaks places young people in control of their intellectual and artistic development. Based in San Francisco, Youth Speaks is “urgently driven by the belief that literacy is a need, not a want, and that literacy comes in various forms.” Youth Speaks has the historic distinction of being the first U.S. organization to host a Teen Poetry Slam.
